After announcing the relaxation of COVID-19 restrictions at the national and international levels, many countries have reopened to tourists. The term “Revenge Travel” was coined to describe this phenomenon when people started traveling more regularly across the globe. People from all over the world let go of their frustrations, after having been unable to travel overseas for nearly three years, by resuming their travels and spending their money excitedly. Furthermore, data from MSIG Insurance, one of Rabbit Care’s key partners, shows that the number of travel days per trip for Thai travelers this year has increased by roughly 50% compared to the pre-COVID-19 outbreak.

Believing that many people are now starting to plan their trips abroad once again, Rabbit Care has revealed a list of the top 5 most popular destinations based on the statistics of travel insurance purchases from April to November this year. Taking the top spot are Schengen countries like France, Italy, and Switzerland. The second and third rankings go to South Korea and Singapore respectively. The fourth most purchased travel insurance is for Japan and the fifth is for the USA. These popular countries may always be in many people’s destinations. To help you prepare your trips in advance, Rabbit Care would like to share these five tips to consider in carefully planning a trip and getting ready for take off.

1) Study the terms of your destination countries and prepare your documents.

While many countries now welcome tourists from various areas across the world, some countries still apply certain conditions for visitors entering their borders. Apart from preparing identity documents, such as passports and visas, it is also necessary to research the countries that you are visiting and prepare documents according to their terms. You can find information about required documents on the embassy website or related organizations.

2) Check the weather and pack essential items before take-off.

Checking the local weather of a destination city is a crucial step in planning one’s wardrobe and other gear for the trip. Another thing that should not be overlooked is medicine, whether general remedy medicine, personal medicine, or even medicine that helps relieve initial symptoms of COVID-19, such as antipyretics, antitussives, and sore throat lozenges. It is because buying some medicine abroad may require a doctor’s prescription. This information can be found on official government websites and related organizations. Moreover, knowing in advance what types of medicine are restricted in certain destination countries will help avoid inconvenient and unnecessary brushes with their laws. Lastly, never forget to bring medical masks and hand sanitizers when entering a crowded area.

3) Download necessary applications for traveling.

Numerous apps today help provide convenience while traveling abroad. For example, a translation app like Google Translate can translate both voice and text in images for more than 100 languages worldwide. The second app is Google Maps, which can help to map routes and select suitable transportation means. Lastly, Taxi-hailing apps like Uber and train journey planners like Trainline will make your trip more convenient. These apps will help enhance your travel experiences.

4) Choose credit cards and privileges to make your travel more worthwhile.

Many may already know that credit cards make payments more convenient and offer travel privileges that you never knew before. We have gathered some information about credit card privileges to help enhance your travel experience as follows:

  • Airport limousine transfer service: For example, Citi Prestige provides limousine pick-up services from Airport partners in Asia Pacific twice a year. Plus, there is one additional Airport pick-up service either in Bangkok or Phuket. For more promotions, please visit Citibank’s website.
  • Cashback and extra reward points when purchasing in foreign currency: For example, The Passion Kasikorn offers triple reward points when spending in foreign currency and KBank JCB Platinum also offers double points when paying in Japanese Yen in Japan.
  • Travel protection: For example, UOB Premiere offers travel insurance up to 20,000,000 baht coverage and KTC Cashback Platinum Mastercard provides accident insurance for domestic and international travels covering up to 8,000,000 baht.

In addition to these privileges, some cards provide seat upgrades, food and drinks on flights, free checked-in luggage, discounts on travel packages, mile earning with airlines, and access to airport lounges at both domestic and international airports. Therefore, choosing a credit card that matches your lifestyle can elevate your travel experience and help you get the most out of your spending.

5) Purchase travel insurance to travel with peace of mind.

It is one of the essential items that should not be forgotten as it only requires a low insurance premium but provides a high coverage. Many may not know that travel insurance does not only cover accidents or sickness while traveling but also other unexpected incidents that may occur during your trip. For instance, travel insurance from MSIG will refund the paid insurance premium if your visa application is rejected. In case of a flight delay, the insurance covers up to 35,000 baht. For loss or damage of luggage, the insurance covers up to 60,000 baht. If the luggage is delayed, the insurance covers up to 35,000 baht. Moreover, the insurance covers medical treatments for both accidents and sickness up to 5,000,000 baht, along with providing 24-hour emergency care center services. Therefore, travel insurance is worth investing in since it will prepare you for any unexpected circumstances.
